GULU-UGANDA: In 1997 Omony Ojok, State Minister for Economics under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni called Acholi Community living in Kampala, Entebbe and Jinja for the meeting at Shimoni Demonstration School in Kampala asking them to give Museveni land. Thousands of Acholi community members under the stewardship of Angelo .K. Banya as the Chairman of Acholi Development Association (ADA) voiced their concern and rejected the call and warned Kampala regime that any attempt by President Museveni to grab their land by force will be answered with unrest.

Banya Angelo and other prominent elite members like Oweka Laboke, Cooperation Secretary for National Insurances Cooperation, George Okutto, Pernment Secretary for Finance, George Odwong, former Kitgum Residence District Commissioner (RDC), Mrs. Lakidi former PS ministry of Justice, they all said if President Museveni want another round of civil strip, let him grab Acholi customary land, the leaders warned.

“Why president Museveni is interested to use forces to get our land, we shall also use the same forces.” Odwong George warns.

From 1997 after the Shimoni Demonstration School meeting, most of those who attended the meeting called by Omony Ojok passed on mysteriously, the question that disturbs our minds, why particularly are ‘Obema’ orbig shorts from Acholi community have been the victims?

Oyeng Yeng Publications shared the names of those who have so far died under Kampala regime and compared it for the sons of Acholi who were killed in cold blood during President Idi Amin as follows:

George Odong, the Director for Economic Expenditure ministry of Finance 1991, George Okutto PS ministry of Finance, Solomon Okwera Director Uganda Revenue in land port based in Nakawa URA deport, Odong Director of Audit ministry of Finance, Oyoo Lakor Public Procurement and Disposal Assets Authority Director ministry of finance, Jacob Anyali Under Secretary Ministry of Finance, and Jorum Okot Principal Officer in the ministry of finance, among others.

Others who died were Major Gen. Julius Oketta, col. Walter Ochora, Tom Apila former Kitgum RDC, Odong Philip Deputy Gulu RDC, any many others.

In the 1970s, many prominent Acholi who were killed during President Idi Amin’s regime, like St Janani Loum, the former Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Boga Zaire, Eroniayo Oryema, the former Inspector General of Police, Lt. Col. Abwola, Col. Obol, and many others, were so outstanding.

Those are few example of the case study that Oyeng Yeng Publication has revealed showing high number of Acholi sons who died under the Museveni’s regime, the finding did not include the people who died during the crossfire in northern Uganda over two decades of northern Uganda conflict between Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF).

Rwot David Onen Achana II puts the figures of the people who died since 1986 to date as 500,000 which is inclusive of the missing ones. Rwot Onen Achana made the revelation in 2017 while launching annual Acholi traditional cultural gala at his palace in Gulu town.

However, according to research carried out by IDEAS Consultancy group between 2000 and 2005, the children who were abducted by both warring parties in Northern Uganda conflicts were over 150,000.

The same report by IDEAS Consultant Group indicates that the missing bodies from Northern Uganda who cannot be accounted for were over 200,000 bodies. While those who died during northern Uganda conflict according to IDEAS Consultant Group is estimated to one million people.
