KRIYADONGO-UGANDA:At 1.00PM, dark cloud descended on Odek’s home village of the late Ambassador Onen located 11 kilometers east of Dima center, as casket appeared in a white vehicle of Uganda funeral Service’s ambulance escorted by Acholi traditional Bwola dance adorn warrior attire.
Acholi traditional Bwola dancers who were escorting the remains of one of their greatest sons, Ambassador Onen Obbo, their first big drum sounded ding ding ding, then followed smaller ones kilong kilong kilong. The Bwola dancers’ footsteps responded rup, ruprup, then what followed was an incantation, the men sounded with song who slain Onen.
During the mass, Bishop Sabino Odoki of Arua catholic diocese describes the deceased as very brilliant but very simple man whose character was highly admired by his clansmen and those he worked with, a statement that really moved the mourners.
“Ambassador Onen was a kind man, who could easily mix up with people without segregating them based on their race, sex, or status.” Odoki said
He adds that when he was being ordained as Reverend Father,it is the family of Ambassador Onen and the family of Angelo Kenneth Banya who worked hard for the success of his priesthood.

Our dear daddy, you aregone, but we know that no matter what, you will always be with us.
Though death has separated us, we knowthat it isn’t only you saying bye to your body.

I will know that it is you bringing to me. When a butterflybrushes gently by me so care freely I will know if it is you assuring me, you arefree from pain.
When the gentle fragrance of a flower catches my attention I will know if it is you bringing appreciate the simple things of life, when the sun shines through my window, still I will hear you words at wisdom and rember what you taught me always.
Daddy without rain tress cannot grow without … flowers cannot bloom, without life is challenges… cannot grow strong.
When I look out to the sea, I will think of your endless love for us all, when think of mountains their majesty and magnificence. I will think of you waragi for your country.
Dear daddy, no matter where I am, yourspirit will be beside me. For I know that no matter what you will always be with us.

Justice Cigamio Owiny Dollo, the chief mourner described the late Onen as captain of the war and that death has robbed Acholi of yet another influential figure.
“In a real home of Acholi, the man who has slain Ambassador Onen would not walk or come to mourn here with us. Acholi has lost the battle in this war since foreigners have gotten hold of our amour and arena.” Said Justice Owiny in Luo rhetoric
Ambassador Onen was born in1948 at Minja Village in Lalogi Sub –County in Omoro district.
He started his education from Minjar Primary school, but later went to Layibi Primary School where he completed his Primary 6. In 1962, he went for his junior one level at St. Joseph in Forgod.
After that, he went to St. Peter’s College in Tororo in 1964 for his Ordinary level. In 1968, he joined Kisubi College for his Advanced level where he was shortly in senior 5he was expelled later he went for senior 6 advanced level in Sir Samuel Baker School.
He later graduated in 1973 with a bachelor degree in Law from Makerere University school of Law.
Works
He was posted to Japan as a career diplomat, later after services in foreign affairs he became deputy Ambassador and later he was posted in Nigeria in the early 2000s as Uganda High Commissioner.
In 2006, he was posted as Deputy Secretary General to East African Community based in Arusha Tanzania. Later he was dropped and appointed as PS for Trade and Industry till his death.
Onen is survived by 11 biological sons, 9 daughters, 3 wives, and 7 grandchildren.
