Golfers Storm Masindi and Hoima for 26th Kinyara Golf Open

All roads lead to Masindi for the 26th Kinyara Open Golf tournament

Golfers from across Uganda are converging on Masindi and Hoima districts for the much-anticipated 26th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open, scheduled for November 21-23, 2024. Players from Kampala, West Nile, Tooro, Mbarara, and Lira golf clubs have already begun intensive training ahead of the prestigious showdown at the 9-hole Kinyara Golf Club.

This annual championship, a signature event on the Uganda Golf Union calendar, has attracted over 200 participants, including top professionals and amateurs vying for glory in Gross, Professionals, and Subsidiaries categories.

Speaking at the official launch held at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, Kinyara Sugar Limited’s Chief Marketing Manager, Sekhar Veedhi, emphasized the tournament’s importance. “The Kinyara Golf Open returns for its 26th edition as a hallmark event for the club. We are committed to advancing the sport of golf in Uganda,” he said.

Kinyara Club Captain Moses Enzama assured participants of a well-organized tournament. “We are grateful to our partners from the insurance sector, including Sanlam Insurance, ICEA Lion, MUA, UAP Old Mutual, and Gold Star Insurance. The course is in pristine condition, and great prizes await the winners,” Enzama noted.

Sarah Siryowe, Team Leader at Liaison Group, expressed her enthusiasm about supporting the event. “As partners, we are proud to be part of an initiative that brings together professionals and amateurs to celebrate the sport of golf. This tournament reflects the values of excellence and sportsmanship we stand for,” she remarked.

Reigning champion Joseph Cwinya-ai is eyeing a fourth consecutive title in the Gross category, where amateurs will compete over 54 holes. The professionals, meanwhile, will battle for a UGX 10 million cash prize in a two-round, 36-hole competition.

With green fees set at UGX 50,000 and UGX 4 million in prizes for the top five amateurs, the event promises to be a thrilling spectacle. Enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the action-packed weekend, showcasing Uganda’s golfing talent at its finest.
