Corona kills Kongola
- SWEDEN:The magnitude of the Corona crisis is equal to the crisis our grandparents and great grandparents experienced during the Second World STOCKOM:&úāWar. Just like that world war, it is a hybrid crisis with health, economic, political, and social ramifications among others.
As our ancestors stood on the frontline with the Kings Africa Rifles in Burma and British officers urinated in their pants out of fear, side by side and together with them in the face the mighty Japanese imperial army, they realised the British were not superior. The superiority of the British Empire and officers they realised was Kongola.
Just as the Second World War showed to our ancestors that the British Empire was Kongola, and opened the way to the fight for the first independence in the 1960s, so will the Corona crisis show to us their grandchildren and great grandchildren that Uganda is Kongola and lead to the second independence.
Lukaka our ancestors did not go to that war as Ugandans, so this is a good time to remember that Acoli existed before Uganda, and that Acoli will exist after Uganda is long gone.
Any solutions to the current crisis must be found within the context of Acoli.
There is nobody else to count on. All will be taking care of their own people.
Today it is Covid 19, perhaps tomorrow Covid 24, then 33, etc.
The pillars needed for a people to withstand the corona scourge today tomorrow and in future are; a robust healthcare system, a good resilient economy and a functional social structure.
Uganda cannot and will never be able to provide any of the above.
And yet any peoples living without the support of these three pillars are living under a Kongola system and the system is about to come crashing on their heads if no action is taken.
Of the three pillars above Acoli society has only one that is semi-functional: The social structure. People still take care of each other in families and in clans. Therefore in the short term the only effective action that can be taken against Corona can be executed through the social structure, through the people who understand what Ryemo Gemo is.
In the long term this same social structure should be leveraged to build the other two; the economy and the health care system.
If the Corona crisis turns out to be a matter of months and not weeks, the state system will quickly be exposed for the corrupt paper-tiger that it really is: only able to beat and maim rather than feed and treat.
It is at this point that Acoli society should rise up to the occasion and show its worth.
KKA should coordinate with the clans for fundraising throughout Acoli and in the diaspora, to source funds to aid the needy.
The state today, that is threatening people who want to help with being arrested for the crime of “cheap politics”, will by that time have exhausted itself both financially and morally. It will be in no position to point fingers at anyone helping the needy.
Ker Kal kwaro Acoli where are you?
It is time to rise up and save your people.
