UGANDA: AFRICA IS AT WAR WITH COVID-19, A WAR IT WILL OVERCOME – FORMER DIRECTOR UBC
66 COVID-19 positive cases so out of hospitasl after recovery, only 10 peole who are still battling with COVID-19 pandemic
We congratulate all the African leaders who are courageously fighting COVID-19 pandemic, the war is not yet over.
GULU-UGANDA: Apollo Wod Okello Lawoko retired person of 36 years on pension has seen it all, a three times book writer of Dungeon of Nakasero state lodge, Poverty in the dark and Caro Lok Acholi.
Apollo Lawoko the former Director of Radio Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation is one of the survivor of former President Idi Amin regime underground torture chamber, who escaped by digging hard cement using Fox and Spoon to escape the roger of Amin’s killer squads. After demise of St Janani Luwum went to self-exile in Kenya in 1977, and later fled the despotic regime of Museveni in 1986 where he sought political asylum in Sweden.
The Black Star News Correspondent caught with retired Director of Uganda Broadcaster Apollo Lawoko 96 years old, and asked him what his take on COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world?
Apollo Lawoko, said COVID-19 in the world, has nothing to do with political struggle in the Great Lakes Region. But warned that Journalists must be careful and avoid pleasing individuals. First instead of looking for the root cause of COVIT19, as a primary issue they are focusing more on secondary issues such as numbers of individuals infected, state success and failures on COVID-19.
He lamented that spiritually, things have gone out of hand and it appears that religious people were no longer in touch with the spiritual needs of the world, churches are after collecting money and not teaching the moral ways of life. Morally they are getting the world on fire look at Sodomy and Gomorra? Those who are talking about Homosexuality are quite, how then they could know about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Let us go back to the Bible or Quran, because initially churches were about managing the poor and disadvantaged. What surprises more now days is that Politics has taken over the role of the church, politics was originally meant to the line has been drawn what is called poverty, every politicians they are now going to fight poverty.
They are being carried away by politics to fight poverty which is economic poverty politically politicians are spokesperson.
For example, the City of New York the poor man like George Floyd has been going down like log, power people has gone down the line. The powerful fellow like Donald Trump even mock with pandemic as power politicians has to think twice in order to fight poverty.
I have seen a lot of things like lock down, the most advantage journalists they think very fast, this things happens many time and people will come in most case. The winner will be over the poor, because they will have nothing to live with.
The fight between Africa and other world so that the African is diverted from the manner they have handle the cases very tactfully fought African, you may be surprise.
It is war now there should not be fear, we are at war both politically, socially and spiritually, the all front. This war that has been fought for long one secret that they don’t know is that Africa has gone through socially, politically and economically the transition bodies.
The scientists have to look for medicine because people are getting infected, but the good news is that Africans have got their own immunity system that has been effective in fighting diseases that have come to Africa. COVID-19 pandemic is a war that I believe Africans will even overcome. Unlike in the western world also so called super powers where they have immunity withal disease. I congratulate all the leaders of Africa who are courageously fighting COVID-19, the war is not yet over.
We are to continue like marathon when one has to prepare for long distance runner, in the past it used to be Opit marathon 21 mail, the runner start from Opit and end in Pece stadium in Gulu City. One of the best runner was called Ochora Stanly.
Where they were starting running for the marathon, they would be more than 200 marathon runners, the majority will not reached Pece stadium a lot more would dropped off.
But it was a yearly event as far as virus is concerns we have to prepare to take on every virus. African and the world must be ready to take on any virus as practices long live after the end.
