UGANDA: POVERTY BITS GULU CITY RESIDENCE HAS FOOD STUFF RUN OUT, ALIENS TURN TO COMMUNITY LEADERS.

LC1 chairperson sacrificed half acre of potatoes to hunger stricken foreigners in Gulu municipality, OBS from proponents colleges in Acholi sub region donated to Gulu covi`9 task force

Thousands of people in Acholi sub region who were used to doing hand to mouth petty jobs have been reported to be sleeping hungry due to precautionary measures set by the government in response to  looming Wide spread of corona virus.

GULU-UGANDA: Government of Uganda has stopped public transport, no more carrying of passengers by Bodaboda, restaurant owners to offer only take away. Food vendors evacuated businesses.

Juakali workers has been suspended, no more door to door services such as cloth washing for money which was common in urban area was all suspended and this has affected many people living in the cities, municipalities and big towns hence created many redundant and dependence on people.

Hon Komakech Lyandro Member of Parliament for Gulu Municipality on side line told Northern Uganda Media Club (NUMEC) during the meeting in Gulu covid-19 district task force that some families in Gulu municipality are surviving on only water.

“ my  office have received  a case from Pece division where a  man  and his wife,  including  children one girl aged 18 years old and one boy age 8 years old slept hungry for three day without food they   were drinks only water my teams rescued  them with food relief” Lyabndro narrated.

“‘Fighting corona virus will make nonsense when people die of hunger, British used divide and rule policy to effect ruling of ignorance African. Why only Kampala and Wakiso are benefiting from foods distribution. Issues like movement of trucks from countries on spot will make Uganda loose the fight let put politics aside, business, superiority, and royalty down and begin the real fight’” quoted MP Lyndro

The president of the republic of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Museveni Kaguta called upon the non-government organizations, investors, well-wishers, individuals to donate to national covid-19 task force and directed the covid-19 district task force to send the locally donated items to national task force for proper accountability and transparency.

In response to president’s call for more donation, On the 5^th and 6^th May 2020 old boys from St Joseph’s college Layibi, Bishop Angelo Negri College and academic staffs of Gulu University donated to Gulu district covid-19 task force foods relief weighed two and half tones of posho, twenty four boxes of bar soaps, half tone of beans, two cartons of iodinated table salts, sanitary pads, cleansing detergent, and tissue papers worth total of UGX 10Million shillings.

The donors directed the task force to distributed the relief to the needy peoples who are now affected due to lockdown .they includes Orphans at St Jude children Centre, Medics at Gulu Regional Referral hospital GRRH and the vulnerable community who are sleeping hungry due to directives sets on their jobs

Upon receiving the relief donation Maj. Santos Okot Lapolo Resident District Commissioner of Gulu District who also double as chairperson Gulu district covid-19 task force appreciated the old boys from St Joseph College Layibi and Bishop Angelo Negri College the prompt colleges in Acholi sub region for their humanitarian support.

RDC however assured the donors that their donation will reach the rightful categories of peoples and will be accounted before the covid-19 district task force committee for transparency. Lapolo begged many people to keep donating to save life of thousand venerable families in Gulu municipality who cannot afford to get food. He tasked Scientists, Physicians, Biologist, Chemist and Researchers at Gulu University to carry out more research to find out the way of bringing the corona virus in to an end

RDC together with chairperson LCV Gulu district Honorable Ojara Martin Mapenduzi reacted on the presidential directives on submission of locally donated items to mother (national) covid-19 task force that Gulu district covid-19 task force had not received any relief support from national task force and the little they have received from local non-government organization, investors, business community, and individual in Gulu district will be distributed to the affected peoples in Gulu. We need national covid-19 task force to extend their relief to all part of the country .said Ojara

On the 6^th of May 2020 LC1 chairperson of Kasubi central ward in Bardege Division Gulu Municipality Honorable Ayot Pauline Aka Min Obabi narrated to oyengyeng reporter that she had sacrificed her half acre of potatoes garden to Congolese and south Sudanese who live in her wards

Every day I receive many foreigners at my door step waking me for food .the little in my house I have to share with them not only foreigners but street children and singles mothers who used to earn living through petty work are pleading me to write and request Gulu district covid-19 task force for food relief Pauline narrated

My office have registered many criminal cases such as theft, domestics violent, and divorce  during the lock down period as women tend to evacuate their husband who has no money to provide basic necessity for the family I managed to solve some of these issues raised through dialogue. Ayot narrated

While one the other hand Prosy Okello age 64years old former director of Acholi youth traditional dancers situated at Kanyagoga ward Bardege Division Gulu Municipality said her home has been crowded with the teams members who has no source of living their main source was stage  dancing where every Saturday the teams was hired for party dancing and facilitated.

Director continued that her team consist of forty members which include single mother, street kid who was transformed, Boda boda and due to lock down they have no source of living.

Ajok Brenda age 26 secretary and Okot Kenneth senior advisor of the Acholi youth traditional dancers confirmed to Oyeng yeng that most of the team members are unable to afford food. We need to be supported by well-wishers and government.

“Ever since the pandemic began we received only UGX 50,000 thousand from Okwonga Alfred director Gulu School of heath science members applauds him support.”

Okot supplemented that his family is affected because he is a professional teacher who was teaching in private school but now the school is closed no more salaries from both the school where he was working and from the Acholi youth traditional dancers where he is a senior advisor and mentor now we want the government to support our team humanitarianly
