The debate among the opposition parties is moving toward formation of a single opposition leader, however, Nicolas Opio, a renowned political analyst disagreed that the mistrust within the different opposition parties are so deep that they will not gunner to form a political coalition.
The Guardian News Correspondent also caught up with  Senior Counsel Nicolas Opio Uganda political Analyst.
Question: Uganda political transition would be from Museveni to Museveni son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba the Uganda’s Army Commander. What is likely to happen in a big election for a political Party?
Ans: Nicolas Opio. What is certainly true is that we are in cash for political change. So, Museveni is sitting with his  son whether he likes it or not his best day is over.
The question is when the last term of Museveni’s election as presidential candidate will be the last time in 2026. He did best Gen. Museveni’s son is successful in the eyes of people, he tells you that people do not believe, people are sceptical against his son.
“If it is not difficult, why is his son trying so hard, why are they not?” The day will come and it will happen, it will, everybody is focused about. After President Gen. Museveni is gone.
It focuses on what leaders we want for this political transition that is going to happen, this political election in 2026, is the last election for Gen. Museveni.
Who are the political players?
Ans: Opio Nicolas. I don’t discuss individuals, I don’t discuss Norbert Mao, Presidential General for DP as a person.
My view is that today, they are trying to co-opt their political agenda. Focus on the environment and individual newcomers and they do not allow political players.
The political opposition parties the likes of Democratic Party DP, Forum for Democratic Change FDC, Najankumbi groups, Katonga Groups, Norbert Sentamu Kyagulanyi NUP party could not agree on a single opposition leader.
Why?
Their differences are so deep, the mistrust is not going to be overcome, there is no possibility.

“It is not known to us that every time we are nearing an election, President Museveni invests in his regular divide and rule technique. Fortunately, we are very many steps ahead of him; we are not called the National Unity Platform for nothing. Our middle name is Unity of the purpose, Unity of morality. So much of the time there is an effort to divide us they will divide the unwanted from us.
For us it will only be good riddance. They will be relieving us of some characters that are barges”
Robert Kyagulanyi, remained tight-lipped on his party plan for the next year 2025, but promised to address the nation next week.
Mr. John Kikonyogo, the Forum for Democratic Change also added his voice reveal that before the talk of the coalition, he supported early appeals by NUP party president Bobi Wine that first the opposition parties must first dissolve their internal differences assess their strength and weaknesses and see whether based on their evaluation there is need to cooperate.
“We are open to coalition, but first all of us must work on our internal contradiction and sort out, and I hope by the end of January 2025, we would have done that. we also encourage other parties to do the same and sort out their internal differences so that we get to the table and begin talking about coalition, we deal with serious people are just forming groups to waste out times”
