Feb 14th, 2019———-Ugandan Legislators have been blocked by UPDF, Police at road block mounted to filter whoever would want to get to Apaa, about 800 Sqkm of land Museveni is grabbing from the indigenous Acholi people.
The road block is heavily guarded by Uganda People’s Defense Forces and the anti-riot policemen.
On the road are logs and rope tied across the width and is only loosen after thorough checks by security forces.
The government through Local government Minister Tom Butime in August 2017 declared the area to be under Adjumani local government, deny officials from Amuru their powers of jurisdiction.
The matter of Apaa land has dragged on without solutions for more than a decade, but with state killings, rape and destruction of civilian’s property by security forces.
It’s not until, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga instructed the Prime Minister of Uganda to intervene with food reliefs, but little is spoken about heinous crimes being committed by the state apparatus with impunity.
On Thursday, the select committee of Opposition legislators led by Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon. Betty Aol Ochan who is also heavily guarded by special police forces drove themselves to access Apaa, but they were stopped by soldiers at the roadblock, as a “no go area.”
The Legislators will make a press statement later Thursday in Gulu over the matter. End
